Honouring International Women's Day and Women's History Month by Reclaiming the Power of Feminine Connection

March arrives each year with a sacred invitation. It is Women's History Month, a time to reflect on the shoulders we stand upon, the voices that fought for our freedoms, and the stories of resilience woven into the fabric of every generation. And at its heart, on March 8th, we gather in spirit for International Women's Day, a global celebration of our strength, our struggles, and our solidarity.

But here is a truth that history books often leave out: the most profound revolutions do not always happen on podiums or in parliaments. Sometimes they happen on Friday afternoons, around a coffee table, with brownies baking and children playing in the next room. Sometimes they happen in the quiet, consistent gathering of women who simply show up for one another, week after week.

For years now, a small circle of women has gathered in my home. We come for just two hours. I make coffee and a simple baked good. The children come too, and somehow, miraculously, they manage to go off and play on their own, leaving us to our sacred space. We catch up. We pull tarot cards and angel cards. We really connect. Not surface talk, but soul talk.

Here is what amazes me: this was never mandatory. No one was ever required to commit to weekly attendance. No one was guilted into showing up. And yet, after years of gathering, it is a rare occasion when someone misses unless they are traveling. These women have nourished my soul in ways I cannot fully articulate. We have celebrated growth and grieved losses. We have held space for career changes, relationship shifts, and quiet personal breakthroughs. We show up for each other. Not because we have to, but because something in us knows that this kind of connection is not optional for a woman's thriving. It is essential.

This lived experience is exactly why, in my workbook Awaken Your Wild Woman, there is one chapter that meets this energy: Chapter 14, Community of Women: The Sacred Circle of Support.

THE POWER OF THE CIRCLE

Self-love teaches us how to hold ourselves. Community teaches us how to be held by others. This is the vital ecosystem that nourishes our growth.

This is not merely a social group; it is a living, breathing entity. It is a sanctuary where masks can be dropped, where vulnerabilities are met with compassion, and where our wildest dreams are not just tolerated but championed.

In this circle, we are reminded that our individual journeys, though unique, are woven into a larger tapestry of shared experience and collective strength. The woman who walked before us, the sister who stands beside us, and the young woman who will come after us, we are all connected.

WHY FEMININE COMMUNITY IS ESSENTIAL FOR THRIVING

To attempt the journey of self-discovery in isolation is to ignore a fundamental truth of our nature: we are wired for connection. Renowned primatologist Dr. Jean Baker Miller, a pioneer in relational-cultural theory, posited that growth-fostering relationships are the central source of meaning and empowerment for women. She argued that we grow not through separation and individuation alone, but through mutual empathy and connection. In a circle that practices this, each woman's growth catalyzes the growth of every other, creating an upward spiral of empowerment.

This modern understanding finds a deep echo in the work of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, who reminds us of the ancient, instinctual nature of the feminine pack. In Women Who Run With the Wolves, she writes:

"Wild Woman is the health of all women. Without her, women's psychology makes no sense."

She portrays the healthy feminine community as a "home pack," a group that runs together, protecting and nurturing the wild nature in one another. The absence of this, she warns, leads to a loneliness that is not just personal, but soul-deep.

Estés also offers this powerful truth, one I return to again and again:

"A circle of women may just be the most powerful force known to humanity. If you have one, embrace it. If you need one, seek it."

These words are a call to action this International Women's Day. Do not take your circle for granted. And if you find yourself running alone, know that your pack is out there waiting for you. Sometimes it starts with coffee, a baked good, and an open door.

REFLECTIONS FOR YOUR OWN JOURNEY

This month, as we honour the women who have shaped history and the women who shape our daily lives, I invite you into a simple but powerful practice.

Reach out to an important woman in your life. It could be a friend, a mentor, a sister, your mother, or someone whose presence has shaped you. Tell her you appreciate her. Name the things you love about her. Be specific. Be generous. This is not about grand gestures or perfect words. It is about letting the women in your circle know that they are seen, that they matter, and that their presence in your life has not gone unnoticed. This simple act of reaching out is the lifeblood of any thriving community. It moves the dynamic from passive consumption to active love, strengthening the bonds that allow every woman to stand taller and venture bravely.

And if you need a place to begin, sit with this journal prompt:

Reflect on a time when your circle helped you overcome a significant challenge. How did their support make a difference?

Let the answers remind you that you were never meant to carry your burdens alone.

YOUR INVITATION THIS MARCH

This Women's History Month and International Women's Day, I honour you, the women who came before, the women who walk beside you, and the woman you are becoming.

Your circle is your mirror, your refuge, and your council. It is the living embodiment of the Wild Woman's truth: that we are not meant to howl at the moon alone, but to raise our voices together in a chorus that echoes through the night (if you haven't done this yet, I highly recommend it!).

Together, we are unstoppable.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to explore Awaken Your Wild Woman further. The workbook is filled with quotes, reflections, journal prompts, and activities designed to help you reclaim your intuition, your creativity, and your sovereign soul.

Happy International Women's Day. Happy Women's History Month. May you always know the power of your pack.
