On this weeks Manuscript Monday Kara recommends “Autobiography of a Yogi” (1971) by Paramahansa Yogananda.
I was 16 years old and on the verge of moving out of my family home. I felt lost and rejected, and very much like an outsider. And then I read this book. Never before had I come across an individual who questioned organized religion, who saw the connections between various faiths as interpretations of universal truths. I had also wondered if Jesus, the Buddha and Mohammad were simply awakened beings, and the author shared these same beliefs! I felt connected to something higher than myself after reading this book and rejoiced at how supported I felt in this big world and the enormous universe - it was as if I found my place. This book ignited my spirituality.
