On this weeks Manuscript Monday Sarah recommends Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner.
This memoir had so much in it. It's the story of Michelle and her Korean mother, and how food, culture and terminal cancer shaped their relationship. I really liked how honest it was. Michelle didn’t sugar coat the people in the book including herself or the details of illness and death. I absolutely loved the details about food in the book. It made me want to visit Korea and indulge in the culture and cuisine. I didn’t know the band Japanese Breakfast but this book made me go down a rabbit hole of her music, interviews, articles, etc. Michelle Zauner is a real artist who is also writing her own screenplay for this book. I will definitely watch it. I feel her mom is helping her from beyond too.
